Carbon
Chemical symbol: C
Atomic weight:
Electrical configuration: (2)2s22p2 (ed. note: arrange superscript characters)
Carbon exhibits allotropy. The two forms being diamond and graphite.
Diamond has a high melting point and is the hardest known natural substance.
In diamond, each carbon atom bonds to four neighbours in a tightly-packed tetrahedron shape (ed. note: diagram ref here).
The four bonds with adjacent atoms and the resultant sharing of electrons fills all of the
carbon atom's orbitals so diamond is an insulator.
